Concept

The Distomo concept had to answer a question:

“If the FIA regulated a current category for Group S cars, what would be the ultimate vehicle design?”

Chief Project Engineer Adam Bennett of MDVSE together with John Wheeler, set these priorities:

  • An entirely new car, designed and engineered in every aspect from the ground-upwards, based substantially on Wheeler’s 1986 RS200 Group S Prototype yet with no single component common to Ford RS200.
  • A no-compromise motorsport rally car, equivalent in many respects to current World Rally Championship categories.
  • 2.0L all aluminium turbocharged engine, mid-mounted longitudinally forward of rear axle.
  • Front-Mid-mounted All Wheel Drive transmission with integrated front differential. This was—and remains– a vital aspect of John Wheeler’s original design.
  • A Fully Tig Welded 25CrMo4 spaceframe chassis, with removable front and rear subframes providing a significant weight saving over the original design.
  • Double wishbone suspension with common components on all corners and twin dampers.
  • Modest Increases in Length, Width, Height, and Wheelbase offer today’s occupants enhanced safety and more accessible cabin ergonomics.

“Reimagining the past, revving up the future.”
